SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The UW-River Falls softball team fell in both of its non-conference road games at Macalester on Friday, March 28.
The narrow losses dropped UWRF's record on the season to 13-9 and snapped a seven-game winning streak.
UW-River Falls 6, Macalester 7
The Falcons got things going in the second inning, as Kaitlyn Hall doubled in two runs and Emily Crowe later singled in one run to make it 3-0 Falcons. Macalester scratched a run in the bottom of the third, trimming UWRF's lead to 3-1.
In the sixth inning, Crowe continued her productive day, singling down the middle for a run by Hall and extending the lead to 4-1.
The top of the seventh received more run support from Hannah Effertz, who singled up the middle to make it 5-1. A sacrifice hit by Hall extended that lead to 6-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Macalester made a late comeback push in the bottom of the seventh, rattling off six runs off seven hits. An RBI-double by Macalester's Callia Holland sealed the deal for the Scots, who managed to complete the comeback and defeat the Falcons 7-6.
Alexa Dusterhoft pitched a strong showing, only allowing one run in six innings pitched. Hall led the way at the plate with a 3-4 performance, totaling three RBIs and one run. Crowe finished with two RBIs off two hits. Kressel and Effertz also tallied two hits each, with Effertz totaling one RBI and one run.
UW-River Falls 1, Macalester 4
In a low-scoring game two, the Scots scored one run in the second, two in the third, and later one more in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead on the Falcons.
UWRF broke its scoreless stretch in the top of the seventh, as Dusterhoft doubled to score Autumn Hughes. UWRF was unable to score any further runs, as the comeback attempt halted at one run.
Crowe had another strong performance at the plate, going 2-4. Aultman, Effertz, and Dusterhoft each tallied one hit.
Brooklyn VanGruensven pitched the full six innings for UWRF, allowing four runs off seven hits. She struck out three batters and walked one.
Following four straight games across Thursday and Friday, the Falcons will have two days off before they are back in action next Monday. UWRF will host Bethel for a doubleheader on March 31, marking the 2025 home opener at Faye Perkins Softball Stadium. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
