Freddy’s Patch Notes 4.30.25

League of Legends and Overwatch 2 Recap

After celebrating two of the Falcon Esports's youngest rosters in yesterday's Patch Notes, Freddy is setting his sights on two teams returning key starters off their respective NECC Nationals runs last April: League of Legends and Overwatch 2.

Coming off an NECC Conference championship and nationals berth, UWRF League of Legends saw a significant level up in their roster with the addition of Joey Clark, a Challenger rank bottom laner. After starting the season with Clark playing off-role in the jungle position and a 1-3 record in their NACE division, Coach Dylan Gentilcore moved Joey to her primary role in bottom lane where she proceeded to lead the Falcons to a four-game winning streak and top-four playoff finish. Sophomore Ethan Evavold picked up his play as a first-time support player earning Falcon of the Week honors along the way. Going into spring, Clark continued to be a human highlight reel, racking up multiple pentakills including a pivotal one in UWRF's win over UW-Madison at the Green Bay Invitational in April that mirrored her Fall NACE playoff performance against University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

UWRF Overwatch 2, led by returning Grandmaster tank player Jamason Johnson, continued its NACE success in the fall. After opening the season with a loss, the Falcons strung together five straight wins en route to a second divisional finals appearance in three seasons. Unable to overcome a rematch of their regular season finale against University of North Texas at Dallas in the finals, UWRF OW2 finished in second place with a 6-3 record. In the spring, the Falcons competed in the WEC's inaugural OW2 season. At the WEC Playoffs, Northwest Regional hosted by CVTC, UWRF beat UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout JV multiple times across the weekend. Their only losses were to UW-Stout Varsity to earn runner-up honors and punch their ticket to the Last Chance Qualifier bracket to earn a spot at the WEC Championship. UWRF swept UW-Green Bay behind Johnson's multiple Play of the Games in round one of the WEC LCQ before falling to UW-Milwaukee in a close full five-game series that placed the Falcons just one map win outside of the Top 6 championship bracket.
