GEORGETOWN, Texas — The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team lost against No. 18 Colorado College on Sunday, April 6.
The game was the second straight on the campus of Southwestern, following a 17-3 win against the Pirates yesterday. Today's game moved UWRF's record to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in WIAC play.
Early on in the game, Colorado College built up a 4-0 lead within the first five minutes out of the gates. Murphi Specht got the Falcons on the board in the first quarter with a goal off a free-position shot. The Tigers scored two more goals in the first and led 6-1 at the first intermission.
Samantha Hayek scored off an assist from Brooke Glumack late in the second, but the Falcons fell behind 12-2 at halftime as Colorado College started to pull away.
UWRF saw two more goals from Specht in the second half, but were unable to make a dent in the deficit. The Tigers held on to their lead and defeated the Falcons 16-4.
As a team, UWRF went 17-25 on clear attempts, and forced 23 turnovers.
Specht led the Falcons with three points off three goals, while Hayek finished with one goal off three shots on goal. Lilah Gilyard and Specht each led UWRF with two caused turnovers each. In goal, Annelise Rommeck made seven saves.
Up next, the Falcons will return to the Midwest, where the team will play three out of its last four regular season games at home. Next on the schedule, UWRF will host UW-Eau Claire at 6 p.m. on April 9.
