MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) released its Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 2-8, with
MaKenna Aure representing UW-River Falls as the Women's Hockey Athlete of the Week.
Aure led the charge in a comeback effort by the No. 1-ranked Falcons against No. 9-rankedUW-Eau Claire on Feb. 7. Down 3-0 in the second period, UW-River Falls scored five unanswered goals to take down the Blugolds 5-3, handing them their first WIAC loss of the season. Aure scored two goals in a row, including a power play goal, and assisting on the eventual game-winner. She's the top-scoring defender in the WIAC this season with 27 points.
The award is the third for Aure this season and the fourth of her career. It also marks UWRF seventh WIAC Player of the Week award winner this season, following
Megan Goodreau (Nov. 3-9),
Sophia Hess (Nov. 24-30), Aure (Dec. 8-14 & Dec. 29-Jan. 4, Feb. 2-8),
Alexa Niccum (Jan. 5-11), and
Jordan O'Kane (Jan. 12-18).
No. 1-ranked UWRF (20-1, 8-1 WIAC) is set for a three-game stretch at Hunt Arena this week, beginning with a nonconference matchup against Saint Mary's tonight before a weekend series against UW-Stevens Point on Friday and Saturday.
