CHICAGO, Ill. — The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-8 nonconference contest to No. 21-ranked University of Chicago Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.
Chicago built an early cushion with 11 first-quarter goals and carried a 15-4 lead into halftime. The Maroons held a 40-15 advantage in total shots and controlled 20 of 23 draw controls in the game.
UWRF broke through midway through the opening quarter when Brooke Glumack finished a feed from Samantha Hayek. Avery Watzke added an unassisted goal later in the frame. In the second quarter, Macy Patton capitalized on a man-up opportunity at the 12:06 mark, and Hayek followed with an unassisted tally to cut the deficit to 11-4 before Chicago closed the half with four straight scores.
Glumack converted a free-position chance in the third quarter for her second goal of the afternoon. The Falcons continued to compete in the fourth, as Natasha Berthiaume found the back of the net and Patton scored twice in the final 45 seconds to secure her first hat trick of the season.
Patton led the Falcons with three goals on four shots, while Glumack added two goals. Hayek finished with a goal and an assist. In goal, Annelise Rommeck played all 60 minutes, recording 11 saves and four ground balls. The Falcons were efficient in transition, successfully clearing 16 of 19 attempts.
