ATLANTA, Ga. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team opened its spring break Georgia trip on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Oglethorpe, 24-13.
The Falcons (5-2) showcased an explosive offensive attack, with seven different players recording multiple goals in the victory. UW-River Falls wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 2-0 lead before pulling away with an eight-goal third quarter to put the game out of reach.
After a back-and-forth opening stretch that saw Oglethorpe briefly take a 4-3 lead, the Falcons responded with a 4-0 run to close the first quarter ahead 7-4. From there, UWRF continued to build their lead, taking a 13-9 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the difference, as the Falcons went for eight goals while holding Oglethorpe to just one. UW-River Falls controlled possession throughout the contest, winning the draw control battle 21-17 and forcing 22 turnovers defensively.
Leading the way offensively was Samantha Hayek, who tallied nine points on four goals and five assists. Elizabeth Clough, Molly Pierce, and Anna Plath each added four goals, while Avery Watzke chipped in three. Natasha Berthiaume and Murphi Specht each scored twice to round out the multiple goal scorers for the Falcons.
In goal, Annelise Rommeck earned the win, making four saves across 60 minutes of action.
UW-River Falls finished with a 48-20 advantage in total shots, with 33 on goal while converting efficiently on clear opportunities (14-of-15).
The Falcons will continue their spring break trip in Georgia tomorrow as they take on Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.
