WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Falcon softball team closed out its 10-game stretch at THE Spring Games on Friday with a split, defeating SUNY Old Westbury 9-0 in five innings before falling to No. 16 Rowan, 3-0.
UWRF wasted no time taking control in the opener, plating two runs in the first before bringing in seven runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.
Addison Eaton led the bats with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBIs, while Caitlyn Kressel and Abby Pitts each drove in two runs. Lacie Lilyquist added an RBI triple as part of the Falcons' seven-hit attack.
In the circle, Randi Metzler tossed a complete-game one-hitter while striking out seven to earn the win. She allowed just three walks and kept Old Westbury off the scoreboard in all five innings.
The Falcons were limited at the plate in the finale, collecting just two hits against a strong Rowan pitching performance.
Caitlyn Kressel accounted for both hits for River Falls, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate. The Falcons had limited opportunities throughout, as Rowan pitcher Emily McCutcheon struck out seven and did not allow a run.
In the circle, Hailey Kincaid worked 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned), while Lucy Knutson provided solid relief with 2.2 scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Over the course of the 10-game trip in Winter Haven, the Falcons recorded key wins over Manchester, Nazareth, NYU, and Old Westbury, including two run-rule victories, while also playing several tight contests.
River Falls now returns back to the midwest and will look ahead to its next action with a doubleheader against Bethel on March 25, in Arden Hills.
