RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team continued its strong play at home Saturday afternoon, defeating Carroll University 13-7 on Ramer Field. With the win, the Falcons improve to 9-2 overall and remain perfect at home this season (5-0), while also handing Carroll their first loss of the year.
Carroll jumped out to an early lead, leading 5-3 early in the second quarter. UW-River Falls responded with a key run to close the half, with goals from Elizabeth Clough, Anna Plath, and Molly Pierce gave the Falcons a 6-5 lead at the break.
The Falcons took control in the third quarter, outscoring Carroll 4-1. Samantha Hayek led the charge during that stretch with three goals, helping UWRF build a 10-6 advantage heading into the final frame.
UW-River Falls continued to extend its lead in the fourth, adding three more goals to secure the 13-7 victory.
Hayek paced the Falcons offensively with a five-point performance, scoring three goals and adding two assists. Pierce, Clough and Murphi Specht each added two goals. Avery Watzke had three points on one goal and two assists in the win.
In goal, Annelise Rommeck played all 60 minutes and recorded five saves to earn the victory.
As a team, the Falcons controlled key areas of the game, including draw controls (14-8) and total shots (30-18), while capitalizing on free-position opportunities throughout the afternoon.
The Falcons will return to Ramer Field this upcoming week as they take on UW-La Crosse in the "Bird Bowl". First draw at 5 p.m.
