RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls softball team lost both games of its doubleheader against UW-Eau Claire College on Wednesday.
The Falcons fall to 7-19 overall, and 0-3 in WIAC play. They will travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday for another conference doubleheader.
UW-Eau Claire 5, UW-River Falls 3
The Falcons dropped game one after allowing the Blugolds to score four runs in the second inning, a deficit they could not overcome.
UWRF got off to a hot start, scoring in the first inning and taking advantage of an Eau Claire error that allowed
Ella Stuber to cross the plate for the game's first run.
Eau Claire responded with their big second inning. The Blugolds tallied five hits in the inning to take control.
River Falls continued to battle in their half of the second, as Stuber singled home
Tessa Peterson to make it 4–2.
Each team added a run in the fourth inning, with the Falcons scoring on a
Lacie Lilyquist double.
Stuber and Lilyquist combined for four of the Falcons' six hits.
UW-Eau Claire 6, UW-River Falls 0
Game two was highlighted by strong starting pitching performances from Kasey Felden and
Brooklyn VanGruensven.
Eau Claire scored a run off VanGruensven in the opening inning, manufacturing the run with three singles.
UWEC scored five more in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Felden kept the Falcons off balance, throwing a complete-game shutout and allowing just four baserunners.
VanGruensven pitched five innings, holding the Blugolds' WIAC-leading offense to just one run.
