RIVER FALLS, Wis. – UW-River Falls interim head football coach
Jake Wissing announced the program's 2026 schedule on Monday, April 27.
The Falcons enter the season following the most successful campaign in program history, capturing the NCAA Division III National Championship while finishing 14-1 overall and 6-1 in WIAC play. UWRF was dominant at home, posting a perfect 9-0 record at Ramer Field, including four NCAA playoff victories inside Smith Stadium.
UWRF also led the nation offensively in 2025, averaging 555.5 yards of total offense per game while recording 449 first downs. Defensively, the Falcons ranked first in Division III with 40 turnovers gained, including 29 interceptions. UWRF's success was reflected in postseason honors, with three All-Americans, six All-Region selections, and 14 All-WIAC honorees.
"We're thrilled to open the 2026 season at home under the lights in front of our incredible fans," Wissing said. "This schedule will be a battle, as always, and we welcome that challenge. Half of our opponents reached the playoffs last season, and the WIAC is a gauntlet every year because of the talent and depth across the conference. It's exciting to compete against quality opponents week in and week out and we're eager to continue raising the bar for Falcon Football!"
The 2026 schedule features five teams that qualified for the NCAA postseason a year ago, all of which were ranked in the top 25 of the final D3football.com poll. Highlighting the non-conference slate is a road matchup at Wartburg on Sept. 19. The Knights finished second in the final NCAA Power Index in 2025.
UWRF opens the 2026 season at home on Thursday, Sept. 3, hosting Southern Virginia University at 6 p.m. The Falcons then travel to Coe College before facing Wartburg the following week. WIAC play begins on Oct. 3 with a road contest at UW-Whitewater.
