STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team closed out their regular season in fashion on Wednesday evening, defeating UW-Stevens Point 24-6 on the road.
With the win, the Falcons finish the regular season at 15-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play, positioning themselves just behind Colorado College, now turning their attention to WIAC Tournament play.
River Falls wasted no time getting on the board, jumping out to an 8-1 lead after the opening quarter. The Falcons continued to control play throughout, outshooting the Pointers 51-10 and holding an edge in draw controls (21-11) and ground balls (31-11) .
On the offensive side, the Falcons finished with 11 different goal scorers. Leading the way was Samantha Hayek and Avery Watzke with four goals each, Natasha Berthiaume and Elizabeth Clough each added three goals apiece. Piper Perron, Alyssa Mathes, and Macy Patton each found the net two different time in the attack.
Hayek added two assists for a team-high six points, while Berthiaume (3G, 2A) and Watzke (4G, 1A) each recorded five-point nights. Kinlee Knutson dished out two assists as the Falcons totaled 10 assists on the night.
On the opposite side of the field, the Falcons were equally impressive, forcing 31 turnovers and limiting the Pointers to just 10 shots in the contest. In goal, Annelise Rommeck and Abby Hammond split time, combining for two saves while allowing just six goals.
The Falcons' consistency across all four quarters (8-6-5-5) highlighted a complete team win in the regular season finale.
UW-River Falls will now await official seeding for the WIAC Tournament, set to take place April 29, May 1, with the championship match on May 3. The WIAC tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
