Falcons Drop Doubleheader at UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-River Falls softball team came up short in both games of their WIAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon, falling 2-6 and 0-10 (5 Inn.) to the Warhawks on the road.

In game one, the Falcons struck first in the opening inning with Hannah Effertz delivering an RBI double to give River Falls a 1-0 lead. Caitlyn Kressel added a solo home run to left field in the third to keep the Falcons within striking distance. Kressel led the offense, going 2 for 3 from the plate and scoring both Falcon runs.

UW-Whitewater added a three-run second inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues, and then added three more in the third to build a 6-2 advantage. UW-River Falls were limited to five hits and were unable to generate any offense late in the game. Hailey Kincaid tossed 6.0 innings in the circle, allowing three earned runs while striking out one.

Game two saw the Warhawks jump out to a quick lead off two first inning home run shots plating four runs in the first inning and breaking the game open with a six-run third. River Falls was held to just three hits in the contest, with Ella Stuber, Caitlyn Kressel, and Tessa Peterson each recording one.

Brooklyn Vangruensven took the loss in the circle, with the Falcons utilizing three pitchers in the game.

With the pair of losses, the Falcons move to 8-22 overall and 1-6 in WIAC play.

UW-River Falls will continue conference action tomorrow as they travel to UW-Oshkosh for another WIAC doubleheader at noon.
