STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-River Falls softball team dropped both games of Saturday's WIAC doubleheader against UW-Stevens Point, falling 2-8 in game one and 0-9 in game two at McCarty Memorial Field.
In the opener, the Falcons struck first behind a solo shot from Caitlyn Kressel in the top of the first inning, but the Pointers answered immediately and pulled away with big innings in the middle frames. The Pointers plated three runs in the fourth and added three more in the sixth, securing the 8-2 victory. Kressel led the Falcons offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Ella Stuber added a double and scored a run. As a team, UWRF recorded six hits but struck out 11 times at the plate.
Game two saw the Pointers take control early, never looking back, scoring in each of the first three innings, including a four-run third inning to build 6-0 lead. UW–Stevens Point added three more in the sixth to complete the 0-9 shutout. The Falcons were limited to just three hits in the contest, with Leah Oistad, Hannah Effertz, and Alexa Dusterhoft each recording one.
UW-River Falls will now turn its attention to a busy finish to the regular season. The Falcons will resume their April 11 postponed matchup against UW-Platteville, picking up play in the second game of that doubleheader. UWRF will then host Carleton on Monday afternoon for a full non-conference doubleheader that was previously postponed.
