The UW-River Falls women's golf team defeated Augsburg College in a dual meet held at the Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wis on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons posted an overall team score of 394 while Augsburg finished 40 shots behind at 434.
The Falcons earned the top three spots at the meet. They were led by Paige Cook (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) who was 18 over par with a score of 89 to finish in first place overall. Teammate Mackenzie Casey (River Falls, River Falls) finished seven strokes behind Cook with a score of 96, and Janae' Lyon (Woodbury, MN, Tartan) earned third place honors with an overall score of 98. Jill Ferguson of Augsburg finished fourth just under the triple digits with a 99.
But there was a close matchup rounding out the top six, each being separated by a single stroke. River Falls' Cyan Zengaffinen (Chetek, Chetek) finished fifth out of the 11 players with a 104, while fellow Falcon Kate Gjerning (Rice Lake, Rice Lake) shot a 105.
Falcon coach Matt Cranston commented that the course conditions played very tough and the pin placements were very difficult.The course played to 5,387 yards and par was 71.
Up next for the Falcons is the Stevens Point Invitational held at the Stevens Point Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.
