The Falcon softball team opened its spring break trp to Florida with two one-run losses in games played in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Falcons opened with a 4-3 loss to Ramapo College, and then lost a 4-3 game to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College.
The Falcons, now 3-3 overall, will play two games on Monday. The Falcons play Illinois Wesleyan at 3 p.m. (ET) and St. Benedict at 5 p.m. (ET). Both games will be played at the Osceola County Softball Complex on field two.
Ramapo 4, River Falls 3
Ramapo scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 3-0 Falcon lead in the first game.
RC scored four runs on seven hits and made three errors. UWRF scored four runs on eight hits and made one error. The Falcons scored a single run in the first and added two runs in the fourth.
With one out in the first,
Haley Selkirk (Northfield, MN, Northfield) doulbled to right center and went to third on an infield out. She later scored on an error. In the fourth, the Falcons had runners of second and third with one out when
Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings) singled to left field to score
Katie Zais (Star Prairie, Osceola) from third. After an out,
Sarah Bohlen (Rochester, MN, Mayo) singled to left to score
Dana Book (Brooklyn Center, MN, Champlin Park) from third with the second run of the inning.
RC scored four times in the sixth on three hits and one Falcon error. A triple knocked in two of the runs.
Bohlen finished 2-3 and Buchanan was 2-4 at the plate.
Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) pitched the first five innings and allowed four hits and no runs. She walked four and struck out six.
Jamie Klein (Elk River, MN, Elk River) took the loss. She worked one inning and allowed three hits and four earned runs. She walked one.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 4, River Falls 3
C-M-S scored four runs on seven hits and made three errors while the Falcons scored three runs on six hits and made two errors. UWRF scored scored single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. C-M-S scored a single runs in the second and third and two in the sixth to get the win.
In the first, the Falcons scored on a pair of singles and an error that allowed the run to score. In the fourth,
Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) hit a solo homer to left center. It was her first homer of the season. In the sixth, the Falcons again scored on two singles and an error.
Buchanan was 2-3 with a run scored and Selkirk was 1-3 with a run scored.
Tusa started and worked the first four innings on the mound. She allowed two earned runs, walked two and struck out two. Klein took the loss working the last working the last three innings. She allowed three hits and two runs, only one was earned. She struck out two and didn't walk a batter.
