The Falcon softball team lost twice on its final day of play in Florida on the team's spring break trip.
The Falcons opened with a 12-4 five inning loss to Carthage. In the second game, Rowan topped the Falcons, 2-1. UWRF finished 2-8 on the trip and is now 5-9 overall.
The Falcons will play in the Augustana College Tournament on March 26 and 27. On March 26 the Falcons play Augustana at 11 a.m., and Wartburg at 1 p.m. On March 27 UWRF plays Coe at 9 a.m., and Martin Luther at 11 a.m.
Carthage 12, River Falls 4 (5)
CC had two big innings in getting the win. In the first they scored four times and they finished the game with seven runs in the fifth.They scored 12 runs on 13 hits and made no errors. UWRF scored four runs on 11 hits and made two errors. The Falcons scored a single run in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) led the Falcon offensive attacked going 3-3 with a run scored. She hit a double to left in the fourth and later scored.
Haley Selkirk (Northfield, MN, Northfield) was 2-2 with a run scored.
Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings) and
Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) were both 2-3. Middleton scored a run and Buchanan had one RBI.
Jamie Klein (Elk River, MN, Elk River) started on the mound but had a rough outing. She allowed four earned runs and five hits and did not retire a batter before being replaced by
Sarah Bohlen (Rochester, MN, Mayo). Bohlen finished the game pitching 4.1 innings and allowing eight hits. She allowed eight runs, seven were earned. She struck out two and walked three.

Rowan scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get the win in game two.
RC scored two runs on four hits and made no errors. The Falcons scored one run on fourt hits but made three errors.
UWRF scored its run in the third. With two outs, Middleton reached base on an infield hit and went to second when Selkirk singled to center. Buchanan scored Middleton with a single to left.
RC scored in the sixth on a single, a sacrifice and another single. The Falcons committed all three of their errors in the seventh that led to Rowan's winning, unearned run.
Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) pitched well, but took the loss. She is now 2-4. She pitched all seven innings and allowed four hits and two runs, one was earned. She struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
