Softball Team Splits Doubleheader with Buena Vista

Falcons Lose First Game, 3-2; Win Second. 12-3

The Falcon softball team split a doubleheader against Buena Vista College on Saturday at the Rosemount Dome.

Buena Vista won the first game, 3-2 and the Falcons took the nightcap, 12-3, in five innings.

The Falcons are now 3-1 overall and will next compete in the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., from March 13-18. Their first game will be on March 13 when they play Ramapo at 9 a.m. (ET) and then Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11 a.m. (ET).

Buena Vista 3, River Falls 2
BV scored twice in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and held on for the win after the Falcons scored once in the bottom of the seventh.

BV scored three runs on four hits and made two errors. The Falcons scored two runs on six hits and they made two errors.

Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) hit a solo homer in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1. BV scored twice in the sixth inning on two hits and one Falcon error. With one out in the seventh, Jamie Klein (Elk River, MN, Elk River) singled to center and Lily Buckley (Menomonie, Menomonie) pinch ran for her and she later advanced to second on an infield out. Buckley later scored on a BV error.

Tusa took the loss on the mound for the Falcons. She went the distance and allowed three runs, two were earned. She struck out a season-high 13 batters and walked just one.

Tusa and Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) each finished 2-3 at the plate. Goettl doubled to right center in the fourth.

River Falls 12, Buena Vista 3 (5 innings)
The Falcons made fast work of the second game winning in five innings. The Falcons scored 12 runs on 13 hits and made no errors. Buena Vista scored three runs on three hits and they made two errors.

UWRF scored four runs in the first inning, one in the second and seven in the fifth when they sent 12 runners to the plate.

In the first Dana Book (Brooklyn Center, MN, Champlin Park) gave the Falcons a 4-0 lead with one swing of the bat. She hit a grand slam home run. It was her fourth homer of the year. Book finished the game with five RBI. Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) was 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings) was 2-3 with two runs scored. Sarah Bohlen (Rochester, MN, Mayo) was 2-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. She doubled to lead off the second and hit a two-run homer, her first of the year, in the fifth. Goettl was 2-4 with a run scored.

Klein got the win on the mound and is now 2-0. She worked four innings and allowed two hits and one earned run. She walked one and struck out one. Bohlen pitched one inning in relief. She allowed one hit and two earned runs. She walked three.
