The Falcons improve to a 7-1 WIAC record after winning both games of the UW – Stevens Point double header. UWRF won the first game 12-3 and the second game 9-8. The Falcons also improve to a 6-0 home record.
River Falls 12 Stevens Point 3
Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) got the start for the Falcons and was rock solid going five innings giving up three runs on seven hits. Tusa improve to 10-5 on the season. Jamie Klein (Elk River, MN, Elk River) came in relief in the sixth inning to close out the game.
Stevens Point was hanging around with the Falcons until the fifth inning when River Falls knocked in six runs on four hits. One of the hits was a grand slam homerun of the bat of Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings).
River Falls would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth when Amanda Ryder (Menomonie, WI, Menomonie) hit a three run homerun to end the game at 12-3
Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) went 2-3 in the game and also drew a walk. Buchanan had two doubles with two RBI's and scored three runs herself.
River Falls 9 Stevens Point 8
River Falls came out swing right away in the first inning. With two outs Buchanan and Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) both singled. Ryder then hit a three run homer to put the Falcons in the lead. Later in the inning Klein added another three run homer scoring Alyssa Black and Shawna Middleton.
UWRF would add three more runs in the fourth inning as they took advantage of a couple Stevens Point errors. Then, the Falcons would hold on to win. Stevens Point wouldn't go down easy, however. The Pointers were making a comeback in the sixth inning, as they scored four runs on six hits. Tusa was brought in relief in the inning and would get three straight batters out to get River Falls out of the jam. Tusa would get credited with a save in the game, her second of the season. Jamie Klein would be awarded with the win improving her record to 4-6.
The Falcons next game is a double header Saturday at UW – Superior. This is a makeup game from April 16th. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
