River Falls Wins Physical Game Over Marian 4-1

Both Teams Combine for 24 Penalties

The UW-River Falls Falcons hosted the Marian University Sabres tonight. River Falls came out on top with a 4-1 victory. It proved to be a physical game with both teams combining for 24 penalties and a total of 70 penalty minutes.

The first period started off with a goal by freshman Zach Schrotenboer off the Tyler Briola and Jeff Burke assist. The goal came at 14:44 into the game and was Schrotenboer's third goal in the early season.  Three minutes later Marian's Mitch Kriz answered with a goal of his own at 17:05 into the first period.

The second period got physical at both teams combined for seven penalties in the period. At only 2:56 into the second period Alec Hagaman scored a power play goal off the assist by Adam Cardwell and George Malliaras. The assist was one of three for Malliaras who now has six in only two games. 

River Falls would score another power play goal later in the period at 12:17 by Adam Cardwell. The special teams for the Falcons was strong all day as they converted three of five power play chances and kept Marian to zero for five on power play attempts.

The lone goal of the third period came at the end at 19:34 from Cardwell for his second of the game. On the same play Sean Roadhouse received his fourth penalty of the game and Cardwell got his second. Roadhouse played strong all day not backing down from the hard hitting Marian team.

The Falcons attacked the net all day with 39 shots.  Cardwell, Hagaman, and Willie Hess all had five shots on the game. They out shot Marion who had 31 shots in the game.

Goalkeeper Scott Lewan continued his strong play by only allowing one goal and putting up 30 saves. In two games he only gave up two goals and had a total of 49 saves.

It was another overall strong performance by the team as a whole as eight different players contributed to the scoring. River Falls won both their games this weekend by a total of ten goals.

They will continue play next weekend on Friday night at Bethel University and Saturday night at Hamline University. Both games are set to drop the puck at 7 p.m.
