UWSP Tops Men's Hockey Team, 6-1

The Falcon men's hockey team lost a 6-1 decision at UW-Stevens Point on Friday night.

UWSP took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Brandon Busse scored just 1:28 into the contest. UWSP took two minor penalties in the period but the Falcons could not scored on the power play chances. UWSP had a 7-5 advantage in shots in the period.

In the second period UWSP's Kyle Heck scored back-to-back goals 49 seconds apart to give the Pointers a 3-0 lead. He scored an even strength goal at 5:08 and a power-play goal at 5:57. At 11:28 the Pointers went ahead, 4-0, when Jon Bochmann scored.

With about 3 minutes left to play in the second stanza UWSP took a minor penalty and the Falcons capitilized this time. Sean Roadhouse scored the goal with assists to Blake Huppert and Adam Cardwell. It was Roadhouse's fourth goal of the year. The goal came at 18:52. UWRF had a 7-6 shot advantage in the period.

Johnny Meo scored two third-period goals. Just 19 seconds into the third period UWSP went ahead, 5-1, when Meo scored. He got his second at 14:05.

UWRF goalies Scott Lewan (14) and Tanner Milliron (3) combined to make 17 saves. UWSP goalie, Brandon Yaeger, made 15 saves. 

Stevens Point outshot the Falcons, 23-16. UWRF finished 1-8 on the power play while UWSP was 1-3. The Pointers took 13 penalties for 34 minuters and the Falcons five penalties for 10 minutes.

The Falcons, now 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the NCHA, will play at UW-Stevens Point again on Saturday in the second game of the NCHA series. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
