The Falcons dropped their WIAC opener, 74-48, on Saturday afternoon to the hands of the Platteville. The Pioneers improve to 6-1 on the season as they currently sit just outside the Top 25, receiving 12 votes. The Falcons drop to 3-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
At the midpoint of the first half, the Falcons held a 14-13 lead before Platteville went on a 20-3 run. During that stretch the Falcons made just one-of-ten field goal attempts, turned the ball over twice, and were kept off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes.
This allowed Platteville to jump to a 33-19 lead at the break and the Falcons were unable to close the gap.
Ollie White scored eight of the Falcons 19 first half points as he finished with a team-best 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Falcons hit 50-perent from the field in the the second half, including
Arik Smith making four-of-five as he scored all eight of his points in the final 20 minutes. Smith led the Falcons with three assists.
Taylor Peterson and
Will Taylor had six points apiece in the loss.
UT Udo had five points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Platteville's Chass Cross led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Pioneers win their sixth game of the year. The Pioneers have had strong defensive efforts all year, holding each opponent under 57 points and averaging allowing just 45 points per game.
