Men's Hockey Upset Eau Claire 2-1

Hess Scores Goal, Assist in Game

UW-River Falls won their first NCHA game of the year as they upset UW-Eau Claire 2-1 out at Hunt Arena tonight.

UWRF struck first tonight at 7:19 into the game when Zach Schrotenboer scored on a power play goal. He leads all Falcons with five goals on the season. He was assisted by Jeff Burke and Willie Hess.  Burke now was five assists on the season.

Isaiah Bennis scored on a power play goal for UWEC at 6:57 into the second period off of the Jack Callahan assist.

Scott Lewan played strong all game only allowing the one goal and recording 25 saves.

Willie Hess scored the game winning goal at 7:46 into the third period. This was his third goal of the season. He was assisted by Geoff Shewmake and Adam Cardwell.

UWEC goalie Brandon Stephenson also played strong with 25 saves of his own.

UWEC had a couple of late game chances to tie the game. With one minute left in the game they had a power play opportunity and pulled their goalie to give them a six on four men advantage. UWRF's defense held strong only allowing one shot on goal in that final
minute.

These two teams battled each other even throughout the whole game. UWRF recorded 27 shots on goal and UWEC put up 26 shots on goal.

With the win UWRF now moves to 5-5-2 on the season with a 1-5-2 NCHA record.

UWEC drops to 11-2-1 overall on the season with a 7-2-1 NCHA record.

UWRF will play again this Thursday, December 13 out at Hunt Arena against Augsburg College for a nonconference game. The puck is set to drop at 7:05.
