Softball Team Scores Big Win Over Central at NCAA Tournament - Video Added

Falcons Win, 6-0, in First Round Game

Rose Tusa threw a three-hit shutout to help lead the Falcon softball team to a 6-0 win over Central College in a first round game at Pella, Iowa, on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons also got some great hitting and played errorless ball in the field to get the win.

UWRF will now play Coe College at noon on Saturday in a championship bracket game. Coe defeated St. Thomas, 3-0, on Friday.

UWRF scored six runs on 13 hits. They scored one run in the first, three in the second and two in the fourth.

Hayley Buchanan was the first batter of the game and she hit a homer to left field to give the Falcons an immediate lead. It was her third home run of the season.

With one out in the second, Patty Olson reached first with an infield hit and Buchanan Walked to put runners on first and second. Kristy Martinson pinch ran for Olson and she was thrown out in a run down after Amanda Ryder singled to left. The Falcons had runners at first and second with two outs.  Buchanan and Ryder both advanced a base on a wild pitch. Abbie Morris then hit a three-run homer to left to put the Falcons ahead, 4-0. It was her fifth homer of the year.

UWRF added two more runs in the fourth. Olson led off with a double to center. She advanced to third when Buchanan flied out to right. Ryder then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Olson from thhird. Morris kep the inning alive with a single to right center and then Ashley Goettl tripled to center to score Morris with the last run on the game.

Tusa struck out three and walked one to get the win and improve her record to 24-6. She allowed just one extra base hit in the contest and it was her seventh shutout of the year.

Olson finished 3-3 at the plate with a run scored. Morris was 2-3 with three RBIand two runs scored. Ryder was 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Goettl was 2-3 with one RBI and Jessie Bester was 2-4.

The Falcons, now 31-13, will play Coe and the Kohawks have a 35-11 record this year.
