Six Falcons have been named to 2012 All-WIAC softball teams and
Rose Tusa was named the league's Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season.
Hayley Buchanan,
Ashley Goettl,
Patty Olson and Tusa were all named to the first team.
Amanda Ryder earned honorable mention and
Jessie Bester was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
Tusa, who was named to the first All-WIAC teams in 2010 and 2011 and earned honorable mention in 2009, was the league's dominant pitcher the last two seasons. She appeared in 33 games during the regular season and started 26 times. She had an 18-5 record with a 1.42 ERA. She had 11 complete games, five shutouts and three saves. Tusa pitched 162.2 innings and allowed just 136 hits. She struck out 195 and walked only 18. She holds the school record for season and career strike outs.
Buchanan, who earned honorable mention to the 2010 and 2011 All-WIAC teams, played second base and started all 37 regular season games. She hit .415 going 51-123. She led the Falcons in hits (51), runs (30) and doubles (10). She also hit two homers and had 15 RBI. Buchanan had a .467 on-base percentage. In the field she committed just one error and had a .993 fielding percentage.
Goettl, who was named to the first All-WIAC team in 2011 and earned honorable mention in 2010, hit .383 during the regular season going 46-120. She led UWRF with 11 homers, 42 RBI and a .708 slugging percentage. She scored 24 runs and had 46 hits. In the field she had a .980 fielding percentage.
Olson, who was named to the 2010 All-WIAC first team, played and started 35 games as the team's catcher. During the regular season she hit .343 going 35-102. She scored 17 runs, had three doubles, six homers and 27 RBI. An oustanding defensive player, she made just one error in the field and had a .996 fielding percentage.
Ryder, who earned first team All-WIAC honors last year, had a .431 regular season batting averaging going 28-65. She played in 25 games and started 24 times. She played some games in the outfield and also was the team's designated player for most of the year. Ryder scored nine runs, had 28 hits, three doubles and one home run. She finished with 10 RBI.
Bester was named to the WIAC's All-Sportsmanship team. The team is for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. The team included one member from each school as selected by that school. Bester played and started in 33 games. She hit .301 going 28-93. She scored nine runs, had two doubles, three homers and 19 RBI. She spent most of the season in left field but also was the team's designated player in some contests.
