Box Score Adam Cardwell scored a go ahead goal in the third period, and an empty net goal, to lead the UW-River Falls men's hockey team to a 4-2 victory over the UW-Stout Blue Devils tonight in Menomonie.

Scott Lewan played another strong game recording a season high 46 saves.
Alex Murphy got things going for the Falcons when he lost control of the puck on a breakaway opportunity but stayed with the play and was able to score when
Jake Calleja corralled the loose puck and found Murphy for the assist. The goal came at 8:23 of the first period. This was Murphy's first goal of the season.
Later in the period Stout received three straight penalties in a span of three minutes and UWRF scored on a power-play opportunity. The goal came off of a nice backdoor pass by
Adam Cardwell to
Willie Hess.
George Malliaras was also recorded with an assist on the play. Cardwell has a team high 10 assists and Malliaras is a close second with nine assists.
The Blue Devils capitalized on a power play opportunity at 5:32 into the second period after Cardwell received a five minute checking from behind penalty. Garrett Grimstad scored off the assists by Jason Cohen and Jordan Trendinnick. Going into tonight UWRF had not allowed a power play goal in three straight games.
UWRF had two power play opportunities of their own in the second period but failed to score on either one. Overall in the game the Falcons finished 1-4 on power play chances and the Blue Devils also finished 1-4 on their opportunities.
Stout significantly out shot River Falls throughout two periods of play 34-17 putting immense pressure on Lewan and the Falcon defense. Overall the Blue Devils outshot the Falcons 48-22 in the game.
Stout's goalie Nick Hopper finished with 18 saves.
With under a minute left in the second period Stout tied the game at 2-2 when Mike Hartviksen found the back of the net. He was assisted by Russel Whited and Grimstad.
One minute into the third period Stout had a chance to break the tie on a power play but the Falcon penalty kill unit held strong getting out of it without allowing a goal and only allowing two shots on net.
The Blue Devils kept the pressure on throughout the third period but Lewan did not allow another goal.
Cardwell's go ahead goal came at 13:05 into the third period when
Zach Schrotenboer intercepted a pass and fed him with the assist. Cardwell leads UWRF in scoring with 18 points and Schrotenboer is second in scoring with 12. Cardwell scored the empty-net goal with 15 seconds to play.
UWRF now moves to 9-5-2 on the season and Stout falls to 8-6-2 on the season. These two teams will meet again tomorrow at UW-Stout with the puck set to drop at 7:30 p.m.
