Falcons Lose 84-71

Box Score

Arik Smith hit six 3-pointers and shot 80-percent from the field as he poured in a career-best 28 points in the Falcons 84-71 loss at Platteville on Saturday.

Smith made 8-of-10 from the field, 6-of-7 beyond the arc, and sunk all six free throw attempts. The 28 points and six 3-pointers are the most by a Falcon this season. It was the most points scored by a Falcon since Shane Manor put in 31 at Superior last season. The six threes is the most since Aaron Anderson made six at Eau Claire in 2011.

The Falcons and Pioneers were even at halftime at 30-30. The second half was controlled by the Falcons the first 13 minutes holding a lead as high as six points. The Pioneers went on a 9-2 run to recapture the lead for good with seven minutes remaining. They pulled away with a 10-1 run to end the game in the final minutes.

The game was much closer than the score indicates with 13 lead changes and seven times the game was even.  The Falcons shot better than the Pioneers from the field and from 3-point range, but the Pioneers sunk 23-of-26 free throws as well as a slight rebounding edge 29 to 23.

UT Udo finished with nine points to go along with his team-bests four assists, two steals and six boards. Zach Peterson had eight points and five rebounds for the Falcons, while Ben Gresmer and Sam Meyer had seven points apiece.

The Falcons drop to 1-10 in the WIAC and 6-14 overall. They will have a week off before they return to action next Saturday when they host Eau Claire at 3:00 p.m.
