Adam Cardwell (Long Beach, CA, Wichita Falls, NAHL) and Tom DeBace (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) both netted late third period goals, but they were not enough as the Falcons fell to St. Norbert College, 4-2, on Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
In the first period, the Green Knights outshot the Falcons, 13-9, and scored two late period goals.
At 11:52, Joe Perry scored to give the Green Knights a 1-0 lead and just over five minutes later Cullen Bradshaw's tally made it 2-0 St. Norbert at the end of one period.
St. Norbert also outshot the Falcons in the second period, 8-6, and added one goal in the period.
Mason Baptista broke away, at 15:03, and blasted the puck top shelf to give the Green Knights a 3-0 lead.
In the third, both teams had seven shots on goal and the Falcons added two goals on special teams.
At 10:22, Cardwell netted his 12th goal of the season on the powerplay to cut the Green Knight lead to 3-1. George Malliaras (Palos Hills, IL, Texas, NAHL) picked up the assist on the goal.
The Green Knights would then answer, at 16:52, when Brandon Hoogenboom scored to make it a 4-1 St. Norbert lead.
Just before the final buzzer, at 19:58, Tom DeBace (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) scored his first goal of the season short-handed on a beautiful feed from Jon Schreiner (Lakeville, MN, Fairbanks, NAHL) to make it a 4-2 final.
Falcon goalie Scott Lewan (Westland, MI, Alberni Valley, BCHL) finished with 24 saves in the game.
The Falcons killed off all six penalties they were assessed in the game including four in the third period.
The loss drops the Falcons to 10-8-3 overall and 3-8-3 in the NCHA. The Green Knights improve to 16-4-1 overall and 3-8-3 in the NCHA.
UWRF will be back at Hunt Arena to take on UW-Stout on Thursday, January 31 at 7:05 p.m.
