Two years in a row the Falcons have knocked off the defending NCAA Div. III National Champions at Karges Center and nearly did it again as they took the No. 12 ranked Whitewater Warhawks to overtime before falling 68-63.
The Falcons held the Warhawks to under 40-percent shooting for just the third time all season as they contained Whitewater to just .377 from the field. On the other end, River Falls shot .414 while hitting 53-percent of their three point attempts, including 5-of-7 in the second half.
River Falls kept the game close in the first half with the lead peaking at 10 points with 3:30 to play. The Falcons went on a 10-3 run to close the half which was highlighted by
Taylor Peterson hitting a three at the buzzer to cut the gap to 31-28 at the break.
Zach Peterson hit his second three of the night mid-way through the second half to give the Falcons a 42-41 lead, going ahead for the first time in 23 minutes. Whitewater quickly recaptured the lead and would not trail again. The Falcons tied the game on two more occasions, including
Taylor Peterson hitting a pair of free throws in the final minutes to knot the game at 59-59 before going to overtime.
UT Udo recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, along with three assists, and hitting three 3-pointers.
Zach Peterson,
Taylor Peterson, and
David Berthene each hit double figure scoring as well.
Zach Peterson was one rebound shy of his fourth double-double as he finished with 15 points and nine boards.
Taylor Peterson had 10 points and a career-best eight rebounds in the loss. And Berthene finished with ten points.
With the win the Warhawks improve to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC. The Falcons drop to 5-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
