Men's Basketball Loses to St. Thomas - Video Added

Tommies Get Second Half is Difference

The men's basketball team lost to St. Thomas, 75-69, with the Tommies putting together a big second half to get the win.

UWRF had a great first half and led at the break, 40-29. The Falcons shot 16-29 (.552) from the field in the first half, including hitting 7-10 three-pointers. In the second half the Falcons were only 8-17 (.471) from the floor while St. Thomas was 17-31 (.548) from the floor. 

After a 12-12 tie with 14:20 to play, the Falcons led for the rest of the first half. They had two nine-point leads and the 11 point lead at the half was their largest.

UWRF held a 9-11 point lead for the first four minutes of the second half. But St. Thomas went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 46-42 with 15:35 to play. The Falcons continued to hold the lead until the 10-minute mark. St. Thomas tied the score, 52-52 at 10:30. There were five more ties after that - the last came with 6:20 left, 62-62. UST took a four-point advantage with 5:59 left and twice after that the Falcons got to within two. The Falcons trailed, 72-66, with 1:16 to play, but Grant Erickson hit a three with :56 to play to pull the Falcons to within three, 72-69. But St. Thomas hit 3-4 free throws in the last 16 seconds to get the win.

Ollie White again led the Falcons with 19 points and he had five rebounds. He also had two assists and two blocks. Erickson finished with 10 points and he had four assists and two steals. Jay Sewer led the Falcons with five assists and he scored seven points. 

UST was led by Zach Riedeman who scored 19 points.

The Falcons, now 1-2, will next play at St. John's on Tuesday with action starting at 7:30 p.m.
