Cody Kohn scores lone goal

Box Score

Cody Kohn scored the Falcon's only goal as they fell to UW-Stevens Point in a Peter's Cup first round game on Friday night in Stevens Point, WI.

The Pointers now have two points in a first to three points weekend series with the winner advancing to the second round of the NCHA Peters Cup playoffs.

In the first period, the Falcons would outshoot the Pointers, 13-9, but the Stevens Point would claim the early lead.

At 9:40 in the first, Joshua Daley scored with an assist from Jerry Freismuth to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons were outshot, 12-7, in the second and both teams would score goals in the middle frame.

Early in the period, at 4:26, Kohn connected with the back of the net to time the game at 1-1. Assists were credited to Geoff Shewmake and Jake Calleja.

The game would stay tied for just under ten minutes until 13:40, when Andrew Kolb scored to give the Pointers a 2-1 lead with over a period to play.

Both teams tested each other in the third period as there were just nine combined shots and seven total penalties assessed.

The Falcons would manage just six shots on goal including one in the waning seconds of the game after they were awarded a powerplay with less than 20 seconds to play.

The Pointers avoided giving up the late game-tying goal and skated away with a 2-1 win that puts them just a win or tie away from the next round of the NCHA Peter's Cup playoffs.

UWRF outshot Stevens Point, 26-24, on the night and Falcon goalie Scott Lewan stopped 22 shots.

The Falcons fall to 12-10-4 overall and 5-9-4 in the NCHA. The Pointers move to 15-10-1 overall and 8-9-1 in the NCHA.

These two teams will matchup again on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. to decide who advances to the next round.
