Falcons Extend Win Streak to Four Games

Box Score

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com)- The UW-River Falls men's basketball team entered its matchup Saturnday night against Hamline University riding a 3-game win streak. Senior forward Jon Christensen's 40-point perfornance led the way as the Falcons grabbed their fourth straight victory, eclipsing the Pipers 80-67.

It was the Christensen show all night for the Falcons. In addition to tallying a game and season-high 40 points, Christensen was a beast on the boards, pulling down 14 rebounds, six of them on the offensive glass. He opened up the scoring for the Falcons with two straight layups before fellow Falcon Jack Herum added a layup to put the home team up 6-0. Christensen and Herum combined for the Falcon's first 11 points.

Sophomore guard Austin Moldenhauer came off the bench for the Falcons and contributed immediately. Moldenhauer buried a 3-point shot to put the Falcons up 14-7 with 14:49 to go in the first half.

After the three from Moldenhauer, the Pipers responded with an 8-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. Senior center Connor Goodwin worked hard to get post position and he was rewarded with a nice jump-hook to put the Falcons back in front, 16-15.

Sophomore guard CJ Lewis buried a quick 3-point basket before the Pipers went on a 7-0 run to make the score 28-20. It would be Hamline's largest lead of the game as UWRF went on a quick 9-0 run to regain the lead at 29-28. Five points from Christensen and two points each from Garret Pearson and Brennan Witt keyed the 9-0 run. After exchanging a pair of baskets, the Falcons took a 33-32 lead into the locker room.

The second half proved to be a close battle as the Falcons and Pipers exchanged the lead multiple time before UWRF took control and never allowed the visitors to regain the lead.

A 3-pointer from Halverson and 7 for 9 free throw shooting in the final four and a half minutes pushed the Falcons to a 17-10 run to close out the game, as UWRF clinched an 80-67 victory.

UWRF had the size advantage over Hamline and the Falcons used that to their advantage by scoring 38 points in the paint to Hamline's 30 points.UWRF also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Pipers 47-34.

Along with Christensen's monster night, the Falcons got contributions from CJ Lewis and Herum who scored 10 and eight points, respectively. Herum also tallied six assists and seven rebounds in the win.

The Falcons (4-2 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, December 9, when they host Carleton College at the Karges Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
