Box Score 2 Hannah Zurn smacked her first career home run on a cold day at Ramer Field as the UW-River Falls Falcons dropped two key WIAC games against UW-Stevens Point.
UWRF is now 16-18 on the season and 3-9 in the WIAC. They will play their final home games of the season Wednesday when UW-Stout comes to town.
First Game- UWSP 10, UWRF 6
The Falcons had 11 hits and the Pointers had 11 in a offensive battle.
Abbie Morris connected on two doubles in the game and now has a team high 14 doubles on the season while hitting a .350. She hit her first one in the first inning bringing in
Aiyana Ledwein. Morris was then brought home when Brooke Lauritizen singled up the middle to put UWRF up 2-0.
UWSP pulled within in one after two innings and went up 5-2 after a Sam Olson grand slam in the third inning. A triple brought in another run to put UWRF up 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
The Falcons had a big bottom of the fifth inning. Ledwein doubled to right center to bring in
Amber O'Connell. Ledwein went on to score on a wild pitch.
Shannan Borchardt connected on a base clearing double to tie the game at 6-6 after five innings.
A four run top of the sixth put the game away for the Pointers. Three Falcons saw the mound in the game. Laurtizen pitched the first thee giving up five runs while Morris took the loss in 2.2 innings to fall to 8-8 on the season and
Lauren Janssen pitched the final 1.1 innings. Both Lauritizen and Morris had three strikeouts and Janssen did not allow a hit while in.
Second Game-UWSP 11, UWRF 2
The Pointers scored five runs right away in the first inning off three hits. Ledwein singled to bring in
Ali Murray in the third. Point added another run in the top of the fifth to go up 6-1 over UWRF.
Zurn let out a big grunt and let one rip to right center for her first career home run brining the Falcons within four. Another big inning in the top of the seventh put the game away for UWSP who moved ahead of the Falcons in the WIAC after the two wins as they scored five more runs.
Zurn was the only player with multiple hits in the game going 2-3 with the home run.
