Box Score PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season Saturday night as they fell to UW-Platteville 61-72.
In the first half, the Pioneers led most of the way. The Falcons were able to take a one point lead five minutes in but the Pioneers would pull away as much as twelve points in the half. At the halftime break the Pioneers led 37-26.
The second half was a back and forth scoring battle for both teams with each team scoring 35 points apiece. The Falcons outshot the Pioneers from the field 14-29 (48.3 percent) to the Pioneers 9-23 (39.1 percent). The Pioneers won the free throw battle making 14 of 15 opportunities (93.3 percent) compared to the Falcons 5 of 11 (45.5 percent).
Garret Pearson was the leading scorer for the Falcons with 19 points. He was 7-13 from the field that included two 3-point baskets and was 3 of six on free throws.
Jon Christensen had a double double for the Falcons scoring 12 points and getting 10 defensive rebounds.
Overall the Falcons were 6-13 shooting 46.2 percent from the line. They were 24-55 from the field and were 28 percent from three point range.
The Falcons now 11-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play, return to action on the road against UW-La Crosse Wednesday evening. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in La Crosse.
