STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened up WIAC play with an impressive 7-0 shutout over UW-Stevens Point.
Maddie McCollins got the Falcons on the board first scoring at 7:27 in the first period. Assisting her on the goal was
Abigail Stow.
At 17:08 in the first period,
Erin Olson was called for hooking putting the Falcons down a player. Forty seconds into the power play it was the Falcons who found the back of the net.
Callie Hoff scored the unassisted shorthand goal.
Hoff led off the second period with a goal at 2:09 giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead. Kiana Gilbrath extended the lead to 4-0 after scoring off a
Callie Hoff pass at 6:51.
Kora Torkelson finished out the second period with a pair of goals. The first came at 10:19 on the power play opportunity. The second goal was an even strength goal at 18:21. Assisting on both goals was
Callie Hoff and
Alex Hantge.
Defender
Allisen Carothers scored her first collegiate goal at 12:12 in the third period giving the Falcons a 7-0 win.
The Falcons outshot the Pointers 62 to 17.
Callie Hoff led the offense with six shots on goal, two goals, and three assists.
Alex Hantge had 7 shots on goal and assisted on two goals.
Piston Cowden took the win in goal collecting 17 saves in 60 minutes of play. Pointer goaltender Olivia Schultz had an impressive 55 saves in her 60 minutes.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in WIAC play. They host Northland College Saturday in a WIAC conference matchup. Puck drop is 2:05 at Hunt Arena.
