Falcons set for WIAC matchups against Superior, Eau Claire

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team continues WIAC action this weekend, traveling to UW-Superior before hosting UW-Eau Claire on Saturday.

ALL INDIVIDUALS REGARDLESS OF VACCINATION STATUS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR A FACE COVERING INSIDE THE FALCON CENTER.

LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons oped their 2021-22 WIAC schedule Nov. 19-20, splitting the weekend with a 5-0 road loss at No. 10-ranked UW-Stevens Point prior to defeating Northland College 2-0. 

Caleb Anderson and Gibb Coady each scored goals against the Lumberjacks while Dysen Skinner picked up his first shutout of the season with 21 saves.

AGAINST THE YELLOWJACKETS
Friday's game marks the 160th all-time meeting between the Falcons and Yellowjackets, with UWRF holding a 76-67-16 series advantage.

The Falcons and Yellowjackets split its series last season, with both teams winning on the road. Vilho Saariluoma scored two power play goals during the Feb. 26, 2021 matchup in Superior. 

AGAINST THE BLUGOLDS
Saturday's game marks the 155th all-time meeting between the Falcons and Blugolds, with UWRF holding a 96-51-7 series lead.

During the 2020-21 season, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw after overtime on March 3, 2021, before the Falcons prevailed 2-0 the following night to clinch the top seed for the WIAC Tournament. 

Dating back to the 2015-16 season, UWEC leads the series with a 4-3-2 record.

IN THE POLLS
The Falcons have received votes in the past two USCHO Men's Division III polls, receiving 18 votes in the Nov. 29 release to finish just outside of the Top 15. UWRF was ranked as high as No. 12 in the Nov. 8 poll.

  • Sophomore forward Vilho Saariluoma leads the Falcons with seven points off two goals and five assists through six games.
  • Newcomers and defenseman Alex Davis and Noah Ganske have combined for nine points, including two goals each.
  • 10 different Falcons have made their way into the goal-scoring column, including seven with two goals each. 
    • Caleb Anderson leads the team with three goals, including a pair on the power play.
  • Falcon goaltenders Dean Buchholz and Dysen Skinner have each started four games.
    • Skinner holds a 4-0 record and his .930 save percentage ranks third in the WIAC.
