No. 4 Falcons host Pointers Saturday-Sunday

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team is set for a Saturday-Sunday series versus UW-Stevens Point this weekend at Hunt Arena.

ALL INDIVIDUALS REGARDLESS OF VACCINATION STATUS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR A FACE COVERING INSIDE THE FALCON CENTER.

The originally scheduled Friday, Jan. 14 game was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. Per WIAC COVID-19 procedures, the game is deemed a "no contest." The game will not count towards the overall win/loss record of either team or for NCAA selection purposes. 

In its place, the Falcons and Pointers added a game on Sunday, which will not count towards the WIAC standings. While it will not count towards the WIAC standings, it will count towards the teams' overall win/loss records and NCAA selection purposes.

THE SERIES
  • This weekend's series mark the 82nd and 83rd all-time meetings between UW-River Falls and UW-Stevens Point, with the Falcons holding a 44-28-9 series advantage.
  • The two teams previously met this season, with UWRF defeating UWSP 7-0 in Stevens Point on Nov. 12, led by two-goal games from each Callie Hoff and Kora Torkelson.
IN THE POLLS
  • The Falcons are ranked fourth nationally in this week's USCHO Women's Hockey Division III poll after three consecutive weeks ranked No. 5. WIAC rivals UW-Eau Claire is also slotted at No. 4, with 93 points each.
  • UWRF debuted at No. 4 in the national poll and were slotted at No. 4 in four consecutive weekly rankings.
FALCON NOTES
  • UWRF is coming off a non-conference sweep over Concordia College last weekend. Sophomore forward Alex Hantge logged three points off a goal and two assists. On Friday, she assisted on the game-winner, and added a power play goal on Saturday, and she was named the WIAC Player of the Week.
  • The Falcons have outscored their six opponents 66-20, the third-most goals in Division III coming into the weekend.
  • UWRF is the WIAC leader on the power play with a .286 conversion rate, scoring 12 goals on 42 chances. In addition, the Falcons are the national leader with seven shorthanded goals.
  • Fifth-year senior forward Callie Hoff is the DIII leader with 26 points off nine goals and 17 assists. Hoff currently ranks fourth on the UWRF women's hockey all-time scoring list.
  • Goaltenders Sami Miller, Jordan O'Connor, and Pistol Cowden each own a save percentage over .900. Miller's three shutouts is tied for third-most in DIII and leads the WIAC.
