#4 Falcons skate past #5 Blugolds, 4-1

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated the No. 5-ranked UW-Eau Claire 4-1 Friday evening during the Falcons' final regular season home game.

UWRF, now 22-1 overall and 7-1 during conference play, has a chance to clinch the WIAC regular season title with a win in regulation tomorrow against the Blugolds, who currently sit atop the league standings.

Three first period goals guided the Falcons to their 15th consecutive win, while the home team had four different scorers and held an edge in shots on goal, 24-22.

Callie Hoff, Maddie McCollins, and Ellie Brice all scored in the first period, with McCollins' 16th goal of the season at 11:51 assisted by Abigail Stow standing as the eventual game-winner.

Eau Claire cut the Falcons' lead to two seven minutes into the middle frame, but with 20 seconds left in the period an Emma Schmitz goal put UWRF back up by three, giving the home team enough cushion for victory.

UWEC out-shot the Falcons 8-2 in the final 20 minutes, but the defense and goaltender Sami Miller held steady for the win. Miller made 21 saves on the night and improved her record to 11-1 on the season.
