PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The men's and women's track & field team wrapped up day one of the 2022 WIAC Indoor Championships on Friday on the campus of UW-Platteville, with both the men and women currently in eighth place.
Lexi LeFever's first place long jump finish headlined the day, as her 5.71-meter leap earned the Falcon women 10 points. LeFever also qualified for tomorrow 60-meter dash finals with a preliminary time of 7.76.
Carter Aakre and
Matt Boche opened the Falcons' day of competition, taking part in the men's heptathlon, participating in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump. Boche sits in 15
th place with 1,565 points and Aakre in 17
th with 1,443 points. The Falcon duo will wrap up the heptathlon tomorrow with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
Charlie Theis competed in the men's long jump and the 60-meter hurdles, placing 18
th at 6.43 meters in the long jump and did not qualify for the 60m finals.
In the men's 400-meter dash,
Dylan Wachter placed 12
th with a time of 50.51.
Brady Sindelir placed 17
th in the shot put, with a toss of 12.24 meters.
The distance team of
Sam Peters,
Caleb Anton,
Kyle McCullough, and
Eric Ottosen wrapped up the men's day of competition, garnering a team point with an eighth-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay, clocking a time of 11:12.03.
Outside of LeFever's efforts,
Kimi Robertson added three points for the Falcon women, placing fifth in the pole vault at 3.42 meters.
Sarah Langlois missed out on the 400-meter dash finals by a slim margin, clocking a time of 1:01.48.
Distance runners
Maria Laudenbach and
Lauren Flynn both set personal bests in the 5,000-meter run, placing 14th and 16th respectively with times of 18:56.54 and 19:10.54.
The women's DMR crew of
Cailyn Kuechle,
Sammy Braunlich,
Megan Halbach, and
Maria Laudenbach closed out the night earning a team point with a time of 13:29.52, finishing eighth.
The second and final day of the WIAC Indoor Championships takes place tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m.
