RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened the WIAC Tournament/O'Brien Cup Semifinals with a 6-0 win over UW-Superior Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons scored twice on the power play, led by two goals each by
Alex Hantge and
Callie Hoff. UWRF improves to 24-1 overall with its 17
th consecutive victory.
UWRF's first two goals came on the power play, a part of a four-goal first period. It took Hantge and the Falcons just over a minute into the game to score the eventual game-winning goal.
Kora Torkelson also added a power play goal in the first period, along with tallies from
Bailey Olson and Hantge's second of the game.
Hoff scored the last two goals for the Falcons, scoring one in each of the final two periods, her team leading 22
nd and 23
rd goals of the season.
UWRF out-shot the Yellowjackets 34-18 and turned away a trio of Superior power plays.
Sami Miller earned the win in net, making 18 saves during her sixth shutout of the season, improving her record to 13-1.
Torkelson collected three assists, while
Abigail Stow and Hoff each had a pair.
The Falcons and Yellowjackets play again tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. from Hunt Arena.
