Falcons drop final games of Florida trip

CLERMONT, Fla. - The UW-River Falls softball team fell 5-4 to William Paterson and 7-2 against Benedictine during its final day of the Florida spring break trip.

During 11 games in Florida, the Falcons turned in an 8-3 record, and will return home with an 11-6 overall record.

Up next, UWRF will compete in the North Park University Triangular March 26-27 in Chicago, Ill., facing North Park and Loras College.

William Paterson 5, UW-River Falls 4
Down 3-0 after two innings, the Falcons put together a four-run third inning, but that was the only offense they could assemble.

UWRF scored four off four hits in the third, with half coming from a two-run homer off the bat of Kelly Aultman, another off an unearned passed ball, and one more from a Grace Petersen RBI single.

WP held the Falcons scoreless for the remainder of the game, and scored the game-winning run in the sixth.

Lindsey Duggan started in the pitcher's circle and lasted 1.2 innings before she was relieved by Maggie Wallin, who suffered the loss despite 3.2 solid innings while allowing one earned run.

Benedictine 7, UW-River Falls 2
The Eagles scored in each of the first five innings while quieting the Falcons' offense until they pushed back for two runs in the seventh.

Down 7-0 in the seventh, Petersen led off with a single, followed by a double from Mavis Sachs. With two outs, a Hannah Richards single scored two Falcons, but the Eagles sent down the next batter for the final out.

UWRF was limited to six base hits compared to eight for Benedictine.

Juliana Reynolds took the loss.
