RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team earned a 17-9 victory over Carroll University Sunday afternoon at Ramer Field.
The win comes after UWRF suffered its first loss of the season yesterday at Carthage College, a 9-8 setback.
Bailey O'Donovan (5g-3a),
Emma Kohlbeck (4g-1a), and
Grace Hannula (2g-3a) combined for 18 points to lead the Falcon attack over the Pioneers, improving the team's record to 10-1 on the season.
After a season-low eight goals scored on Saturday at Carthage, UWRF scored seven goals in the first period against Carroll, and led 9-4 at halftime.
Despite a strong push from the Pioneers to open the second half, featuring five goals in the third period to trim the Falcon lead 15-9, the Falcons shut out Carroll in the final 15 minutes to seal the win.
UWRF led 42-12 in shots and 33-18 in shots on goal. The Falcons also forced 28 Pioneers turnovers while committing 14. Draw controls were even at 15-15.
O'Donovan's career-high eight points led UWRF, and eight Falcons found their way on to the score sheet.
Josie Johnson scored the eventual game-winner with 11:15 remaining in the third period.
Ashley Olson made nine saves in goal to earn the win, improving her record to 8-1.
The Falcons next host Southwestern University this Friday, April 15 at 5 p.m.
