RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against UW-Eau Claire Thursday evening during the Falcons 2022 home opener at Perkins Stadium.
The Falcons' overall record falls to 15-10 and 4-4 in the WIAC.
UWRF hosts UW-Platteville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
UW-Eau Claire 6, UW-River Falls 4
The Falcons battled back twice from a pair of deficits but were unable to gain a lead against the Blugolds after an early advantage from the visitors.
Down 3-0 after two innings, UWRF put together a two-run second inning off a
Sammie Harms solo homer along with
Hannah Richards scoring on a wild pitch.
UWEC answered with one run in each of the fourth through sixth innings to earn a 6-2 lead. The Falcons responded again with their second home run of the game, a two-run shot from
Kelly Aultman to trim the Blugold lead to 6-4.
The Blugolds' Jacie Shultz pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
UWEC held an 11-8 edge in base hits while committing three errors.
Juliana Reynolds pitched seven innings and allowed six earned runs, conceding the loss as her record fell to 7-5. Aultman and Richards led the Falcon offense with two hits apiece.
UW-Eau Claire 10, UW-River Falls 0 (6 inn.)
Blugold pitchers Claire Beck and Jacie Shultz combined for the six-inning shutout over the Falcons, while the offense scored 10 runs off 13 hits.
Shultz pitched four innings in relief to earn the win, and held UWRF hitless up until its last effort in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kelly Aultman and
Johanna Breyen both knocked singles.
Just like game one, UWEC claimed an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. They tacked on a couple more in the third, another in the fifth, and five in the sixth to knock out Falcon starting pitcher
Corinne Roe and put the game out of reach.
Roe conceded the loss, dropping her season record to 3-4.
Lindsey Duggan and
Maggie Wallin each pitched 0.1 innings in relief.
