KENOSHA, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team dropped a tight contest at Carthage College Saturday afternoon, falling 9-8 to concede its first loss in 2022.
UWRF, now 9-1 overall, earned a 4-1 lead after the first period, but the home team responded outscoring the Falcons 8-4 in the final three periods for the win.
Three of
Holly Eckers' team-leading five goals on the game came during the first period to put the Falcons up by three heading into the second period, but Carthage outscored UWRF 3-1 in the second frame to cut the Falcon lead to 5-4 at halftime. The Firebirds held a 16-15 edge in shots at the half.
Carthage held the Falcons to just three goals in the second half while scoring five. The Firebird scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 7-6 lead. The two teams then traded a couple leads before the home team scored back-to-back goals to lead 9-7, which made a difference in the one-goal victory.

Bailey O'Donovan scored UWRF goals.
Ashley Olson received her first loss of the season in goal while logging 11 saves.
The Firebirds forced a season-high 17 Falcon turnovers, while limiting UWRF to a season-low goal total.
UW-River Falls has a quick turnaround, hosting Carroll University tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Ramer Field.
