MADISON, Wis. – The UW-River Falls softball team split a WIAC doubleheader versus UW-Stevens Point Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 in game one prior to a 10-5 bounce back win during the second on the campus of Madison College Sunday afternoon. The games were pushed back a day and moved locations due to inclement weather.
UWRF hosts UW-Platteville tomorrow at 2 p.m. from Perkins Stadium in the regular season finale doubleheader.
UW-Stevens Point 3, UW-River Falls 0
The Pointers' Makenna Tkach threw a complete game shutout while limiting the Falcons to one hit while scoring runs in the first, fifth, and sixth to take game one.
UWSP totaled nine hits and scored off RBI base hits in three separate innings.
Grace Petersen had the lone hit for the Falcons.
Juliana Reynolds allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched, tallying two strikeouts while her record fell to 7-7 on the season.
UW-River Falls 10, UW-Stevens Point 5
After struggling to find any offense in game one, the Falcon bats came alive early in game two, jumping out to a 6-0 lead including a five-run second inning.
Kelly Aultman led off the game with a base on balls, stole second, and came around to score on a Petersen sacrifice fly for UWRF's first run of the game. The Falcons took a six-run lead in the second with RBI singles from
Hannah Richards,
Johanna Breyen, Petersen, and an RBI groundout from
Keegan Piton.
The home team got on the board in the third and four more in the next two innings to trim the Falcon lead to 7-5, but UWRF answered with a three-run sixth inning to go up 10-5.
With two outs in the sixth, Petersen doubled and then scored off an
Eleanor Hoge single. Later, a
Mavis Sachs 2-RBI single put the Falcons up by five runs, enough to earn the win.
Corinne Roe started in the pitcher's circle and went 3.2 innings, and was relieved by 3.1 innings from
Lindsey Duggan, who allowed just one earned run while improving her record to 5-0.
Sachs led the Falcons with three hits, followed by two-hit games from Petersen, Hoge, and Richards.
UWRF totaled 12 hits along with a season-high four stolen bases.
