SEWANEE, Tenn. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2023 season at Sewanee: The University of the South, Sunday afternoon, defeating the Tigers 13-11.
UWRF, now 1-1 overall, was led by five goals from
Bailey O'Donovan and four from freshman
Sydney Chance-Farley - who scored five yesterday during the loss to Ogelthorpe University.
The Falcons were strong in the first period, scoring six goals, including five in a row to grab an early 6-1 lead. Sewanee answered by limiting UWRF to just one goal in the second quarter and opened the second half on a 4-1 run to tie the contest at 8-8.
After the Tigers tied the game, the Falcons responded with three consecutive goals, back-to-back tallies from Chance-Farley and another from O'Donovan, reclaiming a three-goal lead at 11-8 heading into the final period.
In the fourth, Sewanee outscored UWRF 3-2, but couldn't overcome the Falcons' lead.
Kayden Hersback made four saves in net to earn the win.
UWRF held a 25-24 edge in shots and led 18-9 in draw controls.
Up next, the Falcons host UW-Eau Claire March 4 fof their home opener.
