KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team fell in a pair of nonconference games during its second day of the Florida spring break trip.
The Falcons, now 5-3 overall, return to action with another pair of games on Monday.
SUNY-Geneseo 5, UW-River Falls 4
While the Falcons gained a 4-2 lead after four innings, the Knights rallied and walk-off with the one-run victory in the seventh inning.
Keegan Piton led the Falcons with three hits and batted in three of UWRF's four runs.
Jewel Waupekenay and
Caitlin Hartsell had two hits apiece.
After two innings, UWRF led 2-0 off RBI singles from Hartsell and Piton, which was answered by Geneseo to tie the game at 2-2.
With two outs in the fourth, back-to-back singles from
Morgan Stevenson and Piton gave the Falcons a 4-2 lead.
Geneseo hit a two-run homer in the fifth and walked-off with an RBI single in the seventh for the win.
Stevenson made the start in the pitcher's circle and suffered the loss, pitching 6.2 innings with six strikeouts.
Belhaven 8, UW-River Falls 0 (5 inn.)
Belhaven jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and didn't look back, scoring runs in the next three innings while shutting out the Falcons for the win.
The Blazers had three pitchers combined for the shutout, limiting the Falcons to three hits while the offense totaled 12 hits.
Lindsey Duggan lasted an inning in the pitcher's circle and was relieved by
Maggie Wallin.
