CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team earned wins over Ohio Wesleyan and Wisconsin Lutheran on Monday.
The Falcons bounced back after a pair of losses on Saturday to improve to 7-3 overall. They play again tomorrow against Carthage and Plymouth State.
Through two games on Monday, UWRF totaled 17 hits and batted in 12 runs, including a pair of home runs from
Keegan Piton and
Matti Renikow. Piton and Renikow combined for nine hits and six runs scored on the day.
UW-River Falls 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1
Game one on Monday featured a homer each from the Falcons and OWU, resulting in a one-run win for UWRF.
After three scoreless innings, the Falcons got on the board in the fourth. With two outs,
Kelly Aultman earned a base on balls, followed by a two-run homer from Matt Renikow, the first of her career for the eventual game-winning runs batted in.
The Bishops added a solo home run in the sixth, but the Falcons held on for the win.
Lindsey Duggan pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run with five strikeouts in seven innings.
UWRF totaled five hits, including two from Renikow.
UW-River Falls 11, Wisconsin Lutheran 1
The Falcons scored 11 runs off 12 hits in game two on the day, surrendering the sole WLC run in the first inning without looking back.
Renikow and Aultman each hit two-RBI doubles to give UWRF an early 4-0 lead in the top half of the first before WLC trimmed the lead to 4-1 in the bottom half.
UWRF added two more runs in the third inning before tacking on five more in the final two innings.
Keegan Piton led the Falcons with four RBI with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, scoring three runs. Renikow and Aultman each had two hits.
In her first pitching appearance as a Falcon,
Savanna Trittelwitz earned the win, allowing one earned run and three hits in seven innings.
