CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team split its pair of games on Tuesday, falling 3-2 against Carthage College prior to a 4-1 win over Plymouth State.
The Falcons' overall record moved to 8-4, totaling 14 hits with three doubles and six runs batted in on the day.
Keegan Piton led the Falcons through two games, batting 4-for-7 with two doubles along with her team-leading third homer of the season.
UWRF returns to action on Thursday to face Mount St. Joseph and Carroll.
Carthage 3, UW-River Falls 2
Through five innings the game was tied 1-1 before a
Kelly Aultman homer gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Cartahge answered with a homer of its own in the bottom half and added an RBI single to take a 3-2, and shut the door in the seventh.
UWRF's first run was off a
Matti Renikow single to score
Johanna Breyen in the first. Renikow led the Falcons with two hits.
Morgan Stevenson made her third start of the season in the pitcher's circle and went six innings, allowing three earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.
UW-River Falls 4, Plymouth State 1
In game two, the Falcons scored four runs off seven hits, featuring a two-run homer from
Keegan Piton and
Maggie Wallin's second complete game of the season, tossing seven innings with seven strikeouts.
A
Jewel Waupekenay single scored Piton to give UWRF a 1-0 lead after one inning.
PSU scored in the top half of the second before the Falcons answered with three runs in the bottom half to claim their three-run advantage. Breyen singled and
Megan Halvorson scored on an error before Piton's home run.
Piton went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team.
