CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team dropped nonconference games against Mount St. Joseph and Carroll University on Thursday during the ninth and 10th games of its Florida spring break trip.
The Falcons, now 8-6 overall, wrap up the trip tomorrow with games against Bowdoin College and Sprinfield College.
Mount St. Joseph 6, UW-River Falls 2
After the Falcons to an early lead, the Lions scored six-straight runs to put the game away, including a four-run third inning.
MSJ held the Falcons to four hits while scoring six off six hits.
UWRF got on the board in the second, an unearned run off a
Megan Halvorson RBI single.
The Lions scored four runs in the third inning and added a couple more in the sixth to earn a 6-1 lead.
In the seventh, UWRF recorded a pair of bases on balls, and Halvorson came around to score on a wild pitch, but that the the only additional run the Falcons plated in the 6-2 loss.
Maggie Wallin started in the pitcher's circle and took her first loss of the season, allowing four earned runs in three innings.
Lindsey Duggan and
Morgan Stevenson pitched in relief.
Carroll 9, UW-River Falls 3
The Pioneers scored nine runs off 12 hits while forcing a pair of Falcon errors.
UWRF compiled four hits, including an RBI double from
Kelly Aultman and an RBI single from Matt Renikow.
Johanna Breyen batted in another run with a bases loaded walk.
Carroll batted in all nine runs, extending its lead to 7-2 with five runs combined in the third and fourth innings to put the game out of reach.
Maggie Wallin,
Caitlin Hartsell, and
Morgan Stevenson spent time pitching for the Falcons, with Hartsell taking the loss.
