LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team defeated UW-La Crosse 18-13 Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field.
The Falcons, now 7-5 overall, hosted UWL on Wednesday in River Falls, winning 16-13.
UWRF jumped out to an seven-goal lead, opening the game with seven-straight goals before the home team got on the board to trim the Falcon lead to 7-1 heading into the second period.
In the second, UWL went on a 4-0 run and cut the UWRF lead to 10-6 at halftime.
The Eagles retained their momentum to open the second half, scoring two out of the gate to shrink their deficit to two goals, but the Falcons answered with five consecutive goals from five different Falcons to earn a 15-8 advantage. From then on, UWRF maintained at least a four-goal lead.
UWL held a slim 34-32 lead in shots, while UWRF had 25 on target compared to UWL's 24. Each team had 17 draw controls.
Emily Herdine, who returned to the lineup for the first time since March, led the team with five goals, followed by three each from
Josie Johnson and
Grace Hannula.
Emma Heerey and
Holly Eckers had three assists each, and
Bailey O'Donovan led the Falcons with seven draw controls.
In net,
Abby Hammond made a career-high 11 saves to earn the win, improving her record to 4-1.
